Ring of hearts

Read Article →
I absolutely love browsing Etsy as you never know what gems you might discover. It is like scouring a global flea market without having to move from your seat. The joys of globalization.

I've always had a knack for unique rings. My choice of rings will be a little rustic, a little raw but still clean and elegant.  If I ever were to look for wedding bands, handmade or vintage rings that are full of character will be the way to go. Today I stumbled on a great Etsy find that is right up my street.

These gorgeous rings from Tinahdee are not only full of characteristics but laden with heart and soul too. Totally in love!

Most of all, I love the hands modelling these rings. It makes me feel that the rings were made by these hands that are full of lines of life, wisdom, experience and love; and these will be the virtues accompanying me in life when I wear one of these rings. At least that's the story I'd like to believe :)

Happy Friday Everyone!

Larger than life - Felini Varini

Read Article →
Speaking of Geometrics and going bold with it. Artist Felice Varini is probably one of the boldest you can get. He is known for geometric perspective paintings in spaces using projector- stencil techniques.

Check out his recent work at Grand Palais entitled "Dynamo". See how he did it in the video below. Utterly impressive.

Geo-me-try: The branch of mathematics concerned with the properties and relations of points, lines, surfaces, solids, and higher dimensional analogs.
Geometric motifs is the branch of design concerned with using basic forms of rectangles, squares, circles and triangles to create exquisite sequences of patterns and designs. By matching shapes edge-to-edge, manipulating basic forms and colours; these sophisticated designs has stood the test of time since ancient architecture and still look modern today.

Tantalising Triangles

Read Article →

Do you have a favourite shape or a favourite number?
I was randomly asked this question the other day and realise, I have a knack for odd numbers and angular shapes.

I will choose a rectangle over a square anyday, but may have trouble choosing between a hexagon and a rectangle. However, my favourite geometrically symmetrical shape is the Triangle.

Formed by 3 simple lines, this dynamic shape in multiples is able to cross from mid-century to tribal to contemporary through simple manipulation of size, colours and line ups. What's not to love?

In my eyes, triangles are always fresh, sophisticated and full of personality. If I were to depict a triangle into a character, this will be her.

Minted!

Mint : (adj) to describe something in nice or unused condition
(noun) the OH-SO-GORGEOUS colour that I've been obsessed with this Spring/Summer.

Of course the definition above was from my very own personal dictionary. But it does not take away the fact that the sophisticated, bright, chic and yummy MINT is the hue to vibe to this season.
Be as bold or conservative as you like with this colour, it is still bound to make a major visual impact. Infuse it anywhere and everywhere and watch it bring instant freshness to the look.

From Gucci to Movie: A Single Man (2009)

Read Article →

During the May Day weekend, yours truly kicked back with a captivating movie adaptation of Christopher Isherwood’s gay love novel ‘A Single Man’ (1964). A sensuous, stylish and sleek debut movie by the sexy fashion designer cum film director; Tom Ford.

Set in the 1960s, A Single Man tells the story of a closeted British professor, George (Colin Firth) and his grief from losing Jim (Matthew Goode), his boyfriend of 16 years. We follow George on this fated day he has planned to take his life. However, life as we know it, always has a mind of its own which we can never plan for.

The movie vividly portrays sexual alienation during that era, suppression, grief and intuition for love and life; all beautifully wrapped in the 1960s period style. Every person and every item within the set was indulgently perfect and every shot was intoxicating-ly captivating. The movie was shot beautifully with tantalising composition allowing it to be visually accomplished and emotively seductive. Nuanced manipulation of the movie’s colour in accordance to George’s mood and sexual arousal was a delicate, not gimmicky touch.

Tom Ford has definitely out done himself and moved seamlessly from the fashion world to the movie realm with great artistry. Colin Firth delivered an award winning performance and stayed true to the complexity of the George’s character. This marriage birthed a moving, provoking and edgy movie that will be refreshing to watch over and over regardless of the season. Definitely a must watch!

For a beautiful movie, an overdose on still-shots is a must.

Industrial Elegance

Read Article →

I love clean minimalistic rooms, but hate the cold "show room" look, I love the combination of leather and lace; which is why interiors inspired by the rawness of the industrial trend make my heart stops. When combined with pops of colours or layers of textiles, I am in heaven! (I promise
its not because of the pink fridge.)

This ironic approach to interior styling creates a space with the perfect balance of masculine and feminine elements that is classic but edgy, nostalgic but fresh and most importantly - stylishly functional.
