House tour: Classic Monochromes

Read Article →
It is summer and the colour trend usually graduates from pastels to explosions of bright or neon colours. However, personally I think monochromes are timeless and transgress through all seasons. Furthermore, the southern hemisphere is just entering winter. June is not just for multicolours. :)

My favourite colour is Red; it is energetic, passionate, spunky and gorgeous. Above all, it is the perfect pick-me-up colour on this grey hazy weekend here.

This Thursday. my dad is Rad

Read Article →
My dad is one of those who buys for everyone else, but nothing for himself. Father's day gifts have turned into getting him things that he needs but is unwilling to spend on. However, over the years, daddy probably has received everything possible - the hankie, the shirt, the tie, the wallet etc. So how do you prepare a gift for he who has everything?

In the sentiment of changing things up, I've found some unique items that I am sure Dad will appreciate since they each have been made with passion and love by an artisan.

1. STEAMPUNK CUFFLINKS
2. TEAL GREAN AND YELLOW TRIANGLES PILLOW COVER
3. MENS COLLECTION HANDMADE SOAP
4. BRACKETS BOOKENDS
5. FATHER'S DAY CARD WITH MUSTACHE DESIGN
6. LEATHER BOAT SHOES
7. GRAY HERRINGBONE WOOL IPAD COVER
8. GREEN LEATHER JOURNAL

If I could, I will dress daddy up like this too!  Just to take him away from his daily uniform. :)

This Wednesday. serendipity or destiny?

Read Article →
Today I read the Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. It is such a great book reminding you about your 'Personal Legend'. The book also mention about how the universe conspires to help you get closer to your 'Personal Legend' once you have decided on it, so... is it about destiny or serendipity?

I like the romance of serendipity but am fully aware that the continual pursuit of destiny is necessary. Can they co-exist?

MOSHI MOSHI WASHI TAPES

Read Article →
The Washi tape craze looks to be hanging around for a long time more, which I don’t mind one bit. These bright colourful tapes instantaneously brighten up anything you decide to decorate with it. The ideas and selection for these tapes are endless. The sky is your limit. These little tapes are set to take over our world and make everything a little happier and a lot brighter.

The Casa Washi Tapes which are larger than the regular versions and they adhere to any material. Are you bold enough to use them around your house? They are definitely easier than painting and funkier than wall paper, great way to spice up the room when seasons change no?

Japanese artist, Koji Iyama took this multifunctional tape to a whole new level with his life size installation staged within a high ceiling warehouse. See how he did it in the video below.

For everyday use, regular sized washi tapes are bountiful in all colours and designs. Found some great selection to feast your eyes on!

1. SUN KISSED SET - MAE DAY ART MARKET
2. NEON SET - LOOLLIPOP
3. LAVENDER MEETS PINK - THE SEWING POST
4. GEOMETRIC SET - THE WASHI SHOP

Ace Hotel The Urban Hiptown

Read Article →

Speaking of boutique hotels, Ace hotel New York designed by the eccentric husband and wife team Robin Standefer and Stephen Alesch, founder of Roman and Williams Buildings and Interiors is right on the top of my must visit list.

This hotel looks like the cool downtown apartment of a rockstar who scoured the streets of Manhattan picking up funky pieces of art and furniture and threw them together in this one space; giving a grown up look with a touch of adolescence humour to the hotel. Rooms are being decked out with SMEG fridges, turntable, Gibson guitars and vintage furniture; perfect reminder that you are right next to the Theatre District.

This is hotel is full of character and will be truly appreciated by those who covet the urban hipster cult culture. It is raw, industrial, artistic, a little grungy and rather hip. Definitely not for the faint hearted, but it is right up my street.

Travelogue: Lemontea in the heart of Bangkok

Read Article →
For quite some time now my hotel search criteria ignores how many stars the hotel has been rated by some rating bodies ; instead I look for unique home away from home with great reviews from travelers.  On my recent trip to Bangkok, I went as far as to book a hotel with no reviews as they have just been opened for a few months but it looks great and had a great story.

The LemonTea Hotel situated in the heart of shopping district Pratunam caught my eye with its uniquely decorated rooms and lobby. It was reasonably priced which meant I could spent more on shopping, that’s a win- win!

Upon arrival, we were greeted with a welcome drink and the friendliest and helpful crew who made our stay really homey. I was tasked by my mom to buy a kind of crab bean paste and the crew rang the manufacturer to hunt it down for me; how sweet!
The location of the hotel used to be a dilapidated bungalow plot of land which they demolished and built the LemonTea Hotel from ground up. Every room had simple but unique décor that exudes comfort and coziness. It is equipped for individuals looking for long stay as it comes with coin-operated laundry room and your own letterbox. You can totally imagine a writer staying here in the back streets of the bustling shopping district conjuring up his next great piece of work while occasionally stepping out unto the busy streets for inspiration.

Although we visited other great 5 star hotels in the posh district, I will still choose Lemontea should I return to Bangkok. It’s down to earth and personal approach to travelers has captured my heart.

Flower Power

Read Article →
Can you believe it is June already? Where did the year go?

Anyhow, I’m so glad that it is officially summer and it will not be ridiculous to whip out the flower crown. Previously predominantly worn in wedding photoshoots and a cluster of hippies; flower crown this year has officially gone mainstream.

This might have quite a bit to do with Lane Del Rey who totally embodies this trend that is slightly vintage, kinda hippie, rather bold.

With artificial flowers these days as realistic and pretty as real ones, flower crowns look like they just came from the wild. That edgy but dreamy look caused me to scour for tutorials so I can crown my crown. (I couldn’t resist. :P)

If you are not up for getting blisters from working the glue gun, here are some gorgeous finds ready to go!
